The Buddy Reading Programme, also known as the Extensive Reading Programme, is part of the Learning Support Programme (LSP) that is carried out in Red Swastika School for Primary 1 and 2 students. All LSP students should attend the reading programme as part of their curriculum. Students, who are weak readers and not identified for LSP, may be nominated by their English Language teachers to attend the reading sessions to bring their level of English up through exposing them to read.

The Buddy Reading Programme provides a platform for LSP students to practise and consolidate their newly–learnt skills. It also allows weak readers who are not LSP students to read books that are of their reading level. The Buddy Reading Programme offers students a chance to practise their oral reading skills as they are expected to read the book aloud. Consistent and frequent exposure to reading helps to enhance a student’s word identification skill and oral reading fluency.

The sessions of the Buddy Reading Programme for each level are carried out twice a week – Primary 2s on Mondays and Tuesdays; Primary 1s on Thursdays and Fridays. Students who attend the Buddy Reading Programme sessions are helped by fellow students who are nominated by their English Language teachers. These student-helpers are good in reading and have a good command of the English Language.

The Buddy Reading Programme is supported and manned by the Learning Support Coordinator (LSC) and volunteers from the Parent Support Group (PSG). If  you will like to volunteer to help the Buddy Reading Programme, please email .
